When you look at the foundation of the United States of America you will see that there are very clear outlines to separate the idea of the church and the concept of the state at large. The separation of Church and State has been the lifeblood of the United States‘ melting-pot culture and now it is under attack. The Johnson Amendment, which was passed with bipartisan support back in 1954, explicitly made it illegal for churches and other religious facilities to engage in political activity with their congregation. The reason for this law, passed by Dwight Eisenhower and supported by Lyndon B Johnson, was to keep religious organizations that received tax-exempt status in check. Now, President Trump is making it his mission to undermine the very law of our land.
Wonder why they wanted to keep this hidden. https://t.co/pldoYrO1q8

End Citizens United is a political action committee that has been a champion for the American people over the better part of the past two years. Spear-headed by Tiffany Muller, End Citizens United has been focused on keeping dark money and ultra-lobbyists out of the political scene. The origin of their name is a reference to the disastrous Supreme Court ruling in 2010 which allowed the right wing propaganda group, Citizens United, to loosen regulations on campaign finance reform. Political analysts point to that decision by the SCOTUS as one of the darkest turning points in our nations government. Since then, millionaires and billionaires have been effectively ruling Washington and an argument can be made that it led us directly to Trump, who himself is a disaster in the White House.
End Citizens United is coming to the aid of the Johnson Amendment after it was revealed that the bumbling Trump administration had made it a point to completely undermine the law. President Trump signed an executive order aimed at the IRS, telling them to stop prosecuting churches for breaking the Johnson Amendment. President Trump has routinely described himself as a ‘ruler of law and order’ but this public and blatant flouting of the laws of our country stands in stark contrast to his sentiment. As a result, the Johnson Amendment is more under attack than ever and groups like End Citizens United need to step up and make their voices heard.
While the Johnson Amendment has been on the books since the ’50s, churches have regularly been trying to fight against it despite receiving their tax-exempt benefits. An organization called Pulpit Freedom Sounding has been encouraging right win churches to completely ignore the law, thus undermining the fabric of our nation which stands by its legal system. End Citizens United is trying to raise grassroot support in order to push back against this blatant disregard for one of the more important laws in our country.
